Ole Miss vs. Missouri Game Weekend: A Local’s Guide to Oxford, MS (Oct. 17)

Missouri is coming to Oxford on Saturday, October 17, its first trip to Vaught-Hemingway since 2013. Whether you’re a visiting fan, an Ole Miss parent, or someone using game weekend to check out Oxford before a move, here’s how to plan it like a local.

Game Day Basics

  • Who: Ole Miss vs. Missouri, an SEC matchup at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 17. The SEC slotted it for an afternoon kickoff (2:30 or 3:30 p.m. Central). The exact time is announced about a week before, so check Ole Miss Athletics.
  • Storyline: Missouri’s roster includes a familiar face for Rebel fans. Expect a lively crowd.

How an Afternoon Kickoff Changes Your Day

An afternoon game means the Grove fills up in the morning and the Square gets busy after the game. A few local tips:

  • Get in early. Traffic into town builds through the morning. If you’re driving in from Memphis, Tupelo, or Batesville, leave earlier than you think you need to.
  • Plan parking ahead. Check Ole Miss Athletics and the City of Oxford for game-day parking, shuttles, and road closures before you leave home.
  • Make dinner reservations now. Restaurants on and around the Square book up fast on game weekends, especially for post-game dinner.
  • Dress for October. Mid-October in Oxford can be warm in the Grove and cool by the fourth quarter. Layers are your friend.

Thinking About Moving to Oxford, MS? Use Game Weekend

Lots of families fall in love with Oxford on a football weekend, and many of my relocation buyers first visited for a game. If you’re curious about living here, a game trip is a great time to scout, as long as you plan around the crowd:

  • Tour homes Friday or Sunday. Saturday is for football. Friday afternoon and Sunday are much easier for showings.
  • Drive neighborhoods at different times. See what your commute and the street feel like on a busy weekend versus a quiet Sunday morning.
  • Ask about game-day life. Some streets near campus get heavy foot traffic and parking. Some buyers love that energy. Others want to be farther out. Both are great options.
